The Social Workforce

Using Social Media to Attract and Source Talent

It goes without saying that Social media can be an effective communication tool throughout the employment lifecycle, from attracting new talent to cultivating the existing workforce.

Even beyond the necessity to simply manage the message prospective candidates hear is the opportunity to turn social media into a powerful driver of top talent to the organization. But to use it effectively requires much more than putting up a page on Facebook. Social media requires a solid, well-thought-out strategy.

According to new research, organizations are unprepared for the increasing popularity of social media, and unsure how to use it as a tool for sourcing talent.

  • Less than one-fourth of companies have a formal social media strategy in place
  • Of those, only one-third say they’ve been successful
  • Of companies who do have a social media strategy, only 22% engage in social networking to attract talent.

As technology and social capabilities continue to shape the landscape, employers are still asking, “Do we have it right…or wrong?” How effectively is your organization utilizing social media as a recruiting and retention tool?
